Since the weather in Canberra has been incredibly cold the last few days (especially in the evenings) it has made us want some nice hot drinks to warm us up at night. And there is a limit to how much tea one person can drink in a day! So I decided to try my hand at the hot apple drink that I drank copious amounts of whilst I was in Prague. It is ridiculously easy to make and it ended up tasting exactly as I remember. You can make this drink with either apple or pear juice - or apple and pear juice like I did - the best of both worlds! Here is my recipe:
Ingredients
- 2 litres of apple or pear juice
- 2 tsp of whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks (add more if you like but cinnamon sticks are pricey!)
To Make
- Put all the juice into a stock pot (or in my case my favourite red casserole dish).
- Add the cinnamon and the cloves and heat up until the liquid is very gently simmering.
- Put the lid on and forget about it for about an hour.
- Turn the heat off and the flavours will have infused. You can stor this in the fridge for about 1 week I would say. Make sure you leave the cloves and cinnamon in the juice. This is one of those things that will taste better the longer it sits there as the flavours will keep on infusing.
- When you want to drink it the best way is the heat it up with the milk heater/frother on a coffee machine. Heat until the cup gets just too hot to touch. Serve in glass cups - in my opinion it is so much better when it is in a see through glass. This drink would only have been better if it was accompanied by blueberry dumplings like i had in Prague... but that is a job for another day!
The one on the right is a little cloudy as it has just been heated. The one on the left has been sitting just that little bit longer. |
Smells so good! Makes the whole house smell like Christmas :) |
