Home Made Bread (machine assisted!)

The other day Nathan and I went to Aldi to pick up some cereal and impulse bought a bread maker… as you do.  Anyway today was our first try of the bread maker and it went fantastically well. We just made a basic loaf of white bread. It took maybe 10mins absolute maximum to set it all up and put the ingredients in. Then 3hrs and 15mins later we had the most delicious loaf of bread I think I have ever tasted – home baked bread is always so much better than what you buy at the shops. As an added bonus our house now smells delicious, so I think making bread will become a regular activity. I can’t wait to try different tyes of flour and add seeds and grains and try fruit loaves as well – so many delicious things you can do with bread.
Here is the recipe I used, it is one that came with the machine (always best to use these on a first go with an appliance!) – it makes a 750g loaf bread.

Ingredients ~
  • 310mL water
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1tbsp milk powder
  • 3 ¼ cup plain flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp yeast

To Bake ~
Put it all in the bread maker and follow the instructions. If you want to make this from scratch I really have no idea. But I do know that it involves lots of kneading and resting repeatedly and a whole lot of effort (way more effort than making flat breads or focaccia). So good luck with that! Or you could go and buy a bread maker from Aldi’s for $60 :)

our first beautiful loaf of bread!
