Baked Sausages with Onion

I learnt to make this by watching my nanna, she used to make this for us all when I was in high school. I don't think my nanna would have ever added garlic, since my pop has a massive aversion to garlic. Nor would she have added pepper because my brothers would have complained. But the basic principal of the baked sausages with onion is hers.

These are the best sausages you will ever make, you just need to put everything in a dish, into the oven and walk away for an hour. Then the house well smell delicious and dinner will be ready. This is what we made for dinner last night and it went really well with potato salad. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients~
  • organic beef sausages
  • garlic
  • onion
  • olive oil
  • freshly ground pepper

To Bake ~
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  • Put all the sausages in a baking dish that they fit snugly into.
  • Prick the sausages a couple of times each with a knife.
  • Crush some garlic over the top and rub into the sausages.
  • Grind some pepper over the top.
  • Drizzle with some olive oil.
  • Top with onion rings until the sausages are buried.
  • Drizzle with some more olive oil.
  • Bake for about 1hr or until sausages are cooked through. Serve and enjoy :)

Notes ~
  1. You can use whatever sausages you like, it will still work and still taste delish.
  2. Go easy on the oil, sausages have a lot of fat in them anyway so you really only need a dash.
  3. I used pepper that has black, red and green pepper corns in it - but you could use just black. Also you could try putting herbs in to give a different flavour.
Don't be disturbed by the green much. It is garlic. The clove was slightly green and apparently when baked became a far more vibrant, unappetising colour green. Still tastes good though!
