Argentinian Beef

Mmm, yum, yum yum. Beef stuffed with tasty goodies, how could you possibly go wrong? In the SBS Feast magazine there was a story on an Argentine BBQ and there was this enormous piece of beef stuffed with many an ingredient and barbecued. It looked absolutely amazing, but really was enough food to feed a small army. And it was going to take forever to cook. So I came up with something that serves two people and could be cooked in the oven. Here is my recipe:

Ingredients ~
  • 2 porterhouse steaks, tenderised until quite flat (this is so much fun if you have to release some tension!)
  • salt
  • pepper
  • paprika
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • parmesan cheese
  • 1 rasher short bacon
  • chargrilled capsicum (out of a jar)
  • blue cheese
  • cream
To Cook ~
  • Preheat oven to 180 degrees
  • Sprinkle the meat with salt, pepper and paprika. Then put half of the crushed clove of garlic on each steak.
  • put a layer of capsicum and bacon lengthways on the steak.
  • Sprinkle over blue cheese to taste (a small amount say 5-10g per steak goes a long way in flavour terms)
  • Drizzle the steaks with cream and then roll them up.
  • Put the steaks with the gap side down into a baking dish. There should be cream etc that came out when you rolled the steaks. Use your hands and rub this all over the rolled steaks.
  • Bake in the oven for about 40mins - you will know when it is nearly cooked as the aroma will fill the entire house.
  • Enjoy.
Note ~
Don't be put off by blue cheese, I do not like it at all with fruit or crackers and I find the smell overpowering. But a small amount when cooking can give a fantastic flavour to meat. Just use a little bit, it won't taste like blue cheese it will just add a flavour that will permeate through all the meat. It tastes amazing!
