Nathan had an Australia themed lunch at uni today to farewell French student Carole and had to bring something along. I suggested pavlova and now we have introduced pavlova to the French :) I actually extremely dislike pavlova, but I acknowledge that I am in the minority and it is still fun to make. And as Nath and I proved this morning it can apparently be made in the morning before work. Instructions on how to achieve this (NB you need a mix master for this to work).
Ingredients ~
4 eg whites
1 cup caster sugar
1 tsp white vinegar
2 tsp cornflour
500mL cream
toppings (whatever you want but we had passionfruit, strawberries and chocolate)
To bake ~
1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees
2. Nath washes up last nights dishes whilst I get ingredients together
3. I put egg whites in mix master until stiff peaks form (about 10mins) make tea whilst you wait
4. I add sugar gradually into mixmaster and keep beating at high speed until mix is very stiff and glossy. At same time Nath makes breakfast for us
5. Fold in vinegar and cornstarch. Pour mix onto a baking paper lined tray and shape into a cake shape with a metal spoon (should be about 2.5cm thick )
6. put in oven for about 1hr - whilst baking eat breakfast, shower, get dressed
7. I get the pav out of oven when it is crispy and a cream colour and little peaks just starting to get a tinge of brown. Turn upside down onto a plate whilst still hot. Whilst this is going on Nath makes lunches.
8. I put cream in mix master and beat for about 5mins until stiff peaks form. At same time I pack our lunches and bags and Nath finishes getting ready.
9. I pack cream in container and all toppings in a bag for Nathan to decorate pavlova at uni.
And this is what it looked like:
Note: You can also make this without a partner in crime or a mix master but I wouldn't recommend attempting it whilst you are getting ready for work!
