Well did Nathan emerge triumphant? There was some smack talk, e.g. "Well Jamie you are just going to have to kill yourself aren't you?", as Nathan had to use a glass board to chop up the steak as he had run out of clean boards (FYI Jamie Oliver often states that people using glass boards makes him want to kill himself). There was some swearing (nothing too horrendous) and I was banished and not even allow to talk whilst the master (Nathan) was at work. Nath did achieve a pretty good time of 35mins, I think the fastest yet. Jamie may not know the battle that he is in against Nathan... but he will mwhahahaha. Nathan is coming very close to challenging him in the 30min meal event. So Jamie better watch out because this meal was also delicious and looked better than the pictures in the book. Here's the abbreviated recipes:
Potatoes ~
Get about 6 baby potatoes, cut them in half and put them in a frypan (one that has a lid) with 3 cloves of garlic (whole), a few sprigs of rosemary. Cover with boiling water and put the lid on. Cook over medium heat for 12-15mins or until potatoes are cooked through. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon over and serve
Mushrooms ~
Use 1 field mushroom per person. Put stalk side up in a baking dish and sprinkle over a crushed garlic, finely chopped chilli, lemon zest and parsley to taste. Drizzle with oil and season with salt and pepper. put a couple of slices of cheddar cheese on each and put under grill for 10mins or until golden. Serve.
Beetroot Salad ~
Take 3 baked beetroots (You obviously have to do this before hand. It takes about 1.5 hrs in a 200 degree oven with for them to bake. Then peel - warning peeling is messy, don't wear white unless you want it to become pink. Jamie says you can buy vacuum sealed baked beetroots but that just sounds foul) and grate them into a bowl. Add a splash or two of balsamic vinegar and the same of olive oil. Add the juice of half a lemon, 1 bunch of parsley (chopped). Toss to combine everything and then crumble over about 50g of feta. Serve
Steak Sarnie ~ (I assume Sarnie is some odd English word for sandwich)
Take two steaks and sprinkle with salt and pepper, some thyme leaves and drizzle with olive oil. Rub all the ingredients into the meat and then flip and do on the other side. Cook in a super hot griddle pan to your liking. Buy some yummy bread (we used pana de casa) halve lengthways and toast in the oven. Meanwhile slice the steak into thin strips. When the steak is ready and the bread is toasted you are ready to make your sandwich:
Add the steak to the toasted bread and then
- top with capsicum strips (from a jar)
- rocket leaves
- parsley
- horseradish
- olive oil
